Help When You Need It

Naturally, the first thing to do is check-in, but at 4 PM the place is all but deserted. Finally, we ask the only other campers we can find lounging in a hammock. A retired couple from Canada on their third winter sojourn to Mexico, they suggested we take any spot. “We’ve been here since Friday,” they report, “and no one has come by to collect money, but I’m sure they will sometime.” And so it goes, eventually, a few days later someone did come by and collect $12 per night. We’re all in good spirits again: Kim practices handstand and swims laps; Dave plots future travel routes from the “Traveler’s Guide to Mexican Camping,” on loan from the Canadian couple; and Will scouts out internet service for watching the upcoming UVM basketball game.
