From our third floor bedroom window at Hotel Sherwood, you can see a pier in the distance that was once operated by The United Fruit Company. Unfortunately, the river in the foreground feeds trash and filth from the streets of Tela into the Sea. It is all too close to the swimming beach where Kim eagerly insists upon bathing everyday in the warm Caribbean waters. Up the river small boats load up and take tourists out through the breakers to Punta Sal, a nearby island for bird watching, hiking and snorkling tours.Saturday, January 24, 2009
