Our “Home” in Tela, Honduras

During the next two weeks, Hotel Sherwood is our “home away from home” in Tela, Honduras a manicipality of 80,000 on the Caribbean coast. We are staying here with several other “Hands to Honduras” volunteers. As a matter of fact, Dave is at the airport right now with Al and Linda Gilbert and co-oranizer Norm, on an airport run to San Padro Sula (about 2 hours drive oneway) picking the first group from Shelburne & Charlotte, Vermont. Won’t they be pleased to enjoy some warmth and sunshine? We’ll work together for the next two weeks on a variety of service projects ranging from ambulance training for firemen and police; to conducting dental & phyisical therapy clinics; water purification projects; and the construction of new classrooms and facilities at daycare centers, schools and clinics. This will be the first year Kim and I are participating in "Hands to Honduras," and the third year for Will and Dave. Its been great to arrive a few days early, so we can preview a few of the projects and spend some time getting to know the core group of organizers ( Norm, Sam, Liz, Al & Linda). I am deeply moved by their committment to this community and impressed by their collective organational skills. We look forward to rolling up our sleeves and getting to work, and will keep you posted on how it goes.

Finally got an idea of the looks of Honduras where Dave and Will have enjoyed working the last two years. It looks like a neat spot! I hope all the projects go well and that you enjoy all your friends from Shelburne as well as new ones. Save some time for a swim or two - maybe some snorkeling? Love,
